Sea Duck Hunts

Black Duck Outfitters Maryland sea duck hunts are on the famed Chesapeake Bay. We will be hunting from one of our custom duck boats or lying parallel to the water in one of our layout boats. The types of sea ducks that we will be hunting are:

The action is fast as the birds are moving up and down the bay just inches above the water! Your waterfowl guides will be using “long line rigs” with LOTS of sea duck decoys. We are shooting DECOYING birds. Not the 50 yard shot at passing flocks! Bring lots of shells as sea duck hunting will test your shooting ability.

Black Duck Outfitters custom duck boats can hunt up to 5 hunters VERY comfortably. All of our sea duck hunting guides are licensed USCG captains. They know the bay and understand how quickly conditions can change on the water.

Diving Duck Hunts

Traditional Maryland diver duck hunting for canvasbacks, bluebills, redheads, goldeneyes, and buffleheads. Black Duck Outfitters duck hunting guides will take you out in one of our custom duck boats or layout boats for a morning of fast action diver duck shooting. The season for divers is November – January.

We will be hunting many of the tidal rivers of the Chesapeake Bay. Some of the most famous decoy carvers in the world have hunted these waters for years. The guides will be using large decoy rigs just like it has been for done generations before. Black Duck Outfitters equipment is “state of the art,” but the traditions that have been handed down to us remain the same.

Black Duck Outfitters duck hunting guides are also USCG licensed captains. They are trained not only to “be on the ducks,” but also to make sure your hunt is safe. They know the waters you are hunting. They know where the ducks will be; and they know when it is NOT safe or when to get off of the water.

Puddle Duck Hunts

Black Duck Outfitters hunt the early season in October for mallards and wood ducks in both Pennsylvania and Maryland. “Woodies” are always on the hunt list as they stay in our flooded timber and beaver ponds feasting on acorns as they stage in great numbers prior to migrating south for the winter. These same protected back water areas are also known to hold teal, widgeon, gadwalls, shovelers, and occasionally a few pintails. But the sheer number of woodies is simply amazing in October. Our late season hunts on the Upper Potomac River  offers some of the most diverse hunting opportunities in Maryland.  Species you can look to bag are mallards,  black ducks, gadwalls, wigeon, pintails, ring necks, and red heads. We hunt from the shoreline as well by boat blind. You can hunt the river all the way from December through January, and you can expect to see a ton of variety in waterfowl species.

Canada Goose Hunts

“The goose hunting capital of America” is what Maryland’s eastern shore was known as for years. Then it all stopped. The goose population was way down and the Atlantic Flyway Council put an end to AP (Atlantic Population) goose hunting. Thanks to the resident western shore goose population we were still able to shoot some geese in Maryland. That was many years ago and we now have a AP goose season again.

Black Duck Outfitters specializes Canada goose hunting on the western and eastern shores of Maryland. We hunt the early season from September 1-25 (8 birds per day limit) and all of the late season in November – February. The AP limits are 2 Canada geese per hunter per day and late season resident zone limit is 5 Canada geese per hunter per day.

Snow Goose Hunts

Join Black Duck Outfitters spring snow goose guides following the migration BACK North!

Black Duck Outfitters spring snow goose guides hunt over HUGE decoys rigs of full body snow goose and shell decoys. Electronic callers and custom spinners will bring the birds in “FEET DOWN”. Spring snow geese decoy in large groups so we do try to have a full party to maximize the number of geese we can shoot. An unlimited bag and unplugged guns maximize your chances on a banner hunt during the spring conservation order season.

Spring Turkey Hunts

Come enjoy a morning of spring turkey hunting with the Black Duck Outfitters guides as we hunt the eastern and western shores of Maryland, and the rolling hills of Central Pennsylvania. You will meet your guide long before sunrise and he will accompany your party into one of our privately leased areas. There are few sounds in the wild that match that of a gobbler hammering out of a roost tree and flying down.
